Sony SRS XB 402 is the big guy in the entire Extra Bass series that looks very premium. The most surprising feature of the speaker is, it has built-in Amazon Alexa.

Inside The Box

In the box, you get a Quick Start Guide, safety and warranty sheets, original power cords, and lastly, the xB 402 speaker.

Build Quality

This speaker weighs in at about 1.5 kilograms from all the pictures and demo videos and thought it was going to be a lot bigger than this. Still, surprisingly, it’s smaller and more comfortable to move around and is suitable for portability.

When you power ON the speaker, the first thing that stands out is the RGB lights are just the way the speaker gently lights up. The lights give the speaker a very distinctive look amongst other speakers.

Another thing I notice is just how tough and rugged the speaker feels. It still gets a nicely woven fabric all over the front side of the speaker, but right underneath that fabric is very tough.

The controls are located at the top of the speaker, and they all have a clicky rubbery feel, which is good.

Now moving from the left to the right side, you have the power ON and pairing button, and next to that, you have the microphone mute button for preventing Alexa from getting triggered. Next, you have the play/pause button, the volume up, and down button, and lastly, the live button.

Battery Performance

The speaker claims about 12 hours of battery life, and Sony says that you can get about 9 hours playback time with the extra base mode turned ON. This isn’t as great as some of Sony’s other speakers out there, but it’s a lot better. Just keep in mind that the battery life will always be dependent on how you use the speaker, the volume level, the lights that you have turned ON.

Sound Quality

The Sony XB 402 sounds good, especially with the soundstage. I like the way the speakers separate the left and right channels to give you a really nice stereo.

The base of the speaker is excellent and nicely controlled. So it doesn’t overpower the song, but I must say that the bass is still a bit lacking in the speaker, especially when it’s an extra bass speaker.

The speaker sounds good at low volumes, but as soon as you start to push the volumes up, it starts to lose bass. So if you’re a bass head and you love an excellent resonating deep bass, then I don’t think the speaker would be enough for your needs.

The vocals were immaculate and clear and pushed to the front. The high frequencies were not too harsh to the ears.

Sony has improved the Live Mode on this speaker. So now the live effect is more social on the music, and it doesn’t affect the vocals that much.

Others

This speaker is rated IPX7, i.e., dust and waterproof, which is absolutely reassuring for the outdoors. Also, Sony says that the speaker is also rustproof.

Unfortunately, this speaker can only be paired to one device at a time, so you cannot seamlessly switch between two devices. You have to impair the first device and then pair up the second device.

Although the speaker supports Wi-Fi, you cannot use the Wi-Fi connection to play locally stored music from your phone. The Wi-Fi feature is only made for Alexa, so you still have to use Bluetooth connection for all your music playback.

Final Words

Do I recommend the speaker?

I’ll say yes. I would recommend it because of the soundstage. The left and right separation are excellent, and the live sound mode adds another dimension.

Sony has been good with this feature on most of its speakers, and it’s always been very reassuring for the outdoors. Lastly, the design, compact, and rounded shape make it super portable and easy to travel with the RGB lights.

But for over twenty thousand rupees, I think it’s a bit on the pricey side considering what the speaker offers, but if you managed to find the speaker for less than that, then I think that it will be well worth the purchase.

Sony SRS XB 21 is the most affordable bluetooth speaker as compared to its big brothers like XB 31 XB 32 ,etc. The entire XB series is dedicated to Party Boost.

Keeping the tradition of high prices, the XB 21 is priced at almost eight thousand Indian currency and is made of suitable quality plastic with a universal choice of 2018.  The fabric is covering the entire speaker. The two lines you will see going from the front of the speaker all the way to the side are single coloured LED strips, although there are only just two LEDs in the front of the speaker.  Please note that based on the speaker colour you choose the LED colour will vary. If you want multicoloured LEDs, go for the higher models.

The speaker feels well built and solid but not too heavy for everyday carry. The usual controls are on the top of the speaker. Next to the port’s you can find three buttons, the battery button, WPC and an add button. Pressing the battery button gives you a vocal confirmation of the battery percentage.

The add button is used to add more XB 21 speakers and use it as stereo speakers. The WPC or the wireless party chain is used to add more speakers.

The entire XB series is IP67 rated or in simple terms water, dust and shockproof, and being a Sony product, of course, you get NFC

Being an extra-base branded product, it sounds clear and crisp. The mids and vocals sounded pretty clear. The bass was really superb living as it’s an extra bass name tag—excellent lows with some nice punchy feeling. The speaker for its size gets pretty loud and has almost no distortion at full volume. Fortunately, the speaker doesn’t dance at 100%.

The only negative I would say is there is no way to know if you reach the full volume. Cheaper speakers have a notification tone when you reach the highest capacity but other than that I am delighted with the performance of this XB 21.

Unlike most Bluetooth speakers out there, you can download an app by Sony called the Music Center app to go along with the speaker that gives you more features. You can control like different sound modes, LED modes, EQ, connecting more than 1 XB speaker. Also, you get something called party booster which means you can tap on different spots on the speaker, and it will make different instrument sounds. It can be customized from the app.

Keep in mind one thing; if you use the speaker in the normal way through the Android settings, you won’t get much of the features.

To get all these features, you need to connect it through the app.

Fortunately, you do get the typical range of most Bluetooth speakers with some very occasional choppiness. The battery life is something that I’m not that impressed with; it lasted for a pretty decent 10 hours at approximately 65% volume. It took me around four hours to fully charge from the dead.

So what’s my final verdict?

The Sony SRS XB 21 gets a definite thumbs up from me even though the battery life is just okay. If you have the money to spend on a good base, water resistance, and overall sound quality, then go with the XB 21 for sure. If you feel like you want a little bit more bass and more colourful LEDs, check out the bigger brothers the XB 31 or the XB 41.

Sony SRS XB 32 packed with several features like extra-base, live sound, waterproof design, and also it got those LED lights that add a little bit of a party atmosphere.

I think that most of you will be very interested in the sound quality and to start with the bass you’re not going to disappoint it.

The highest admits that come through clearly and the bass has some kick to it, but the speaker does tend to overemphasize low frequencies and can sound a little bit muddy at times especially with the extra bass feature turned on which is enabled by default.

Now there’s a dedicated live button on top and Sony shares that this should give you some festival vibes, but I don’t get that feeling to be honest. Still, I did notice that it does maintain the bass from the extra-base mode while increasing the volume and enhancing some of the mixes.

The speaker tends to be based heavy, but you can turn the extra-base feature on and off using the Sony Music Center app or by holding the volume down and the play buttons for three seconds until the power indicator changes its colour.

It has three modes, the standard mode, extra bass, and live sound, and it’s relatively easy to distinguish.

So besides all the great audio that is coming from this speaker, it’s also packed with features.

We have that out of the way the most obvious one is, of course, the LED lights and it’s an excellent addition to the speaker, and it gives a bit of a party atmosphere, and it helps this speaker, therefore, to stand out from the other brands.

Now if you don’t like the lights, you can hold down the light button inside the cap on the rear of the speaker for about three seconds, and via the Sony music application you can set the light to dance with the music to establish a more calming effect or to turn off the lights entirely as well

There’s also an IP67 rating meaning you can quickly bring it to a pool or a beach and Sony specifically mentioned that it’s salt waterproof as well. So this will be a perfect speaker for at the beach strangely enough. The previous model used Sony’s proprietary charging cable but this model they stepped up their game and included a micro USB port as well, but for such a modern speaker I would have loved to see a charging port which is a type C port.

Sony mentioned that this speaker could last up to 24 hours which is true if you set it to the default mode, not the extra-base mode and if you leave it at 50% of volume, so that’s true. Still, the moment you turn on the lights, and you set the extra base or even the live sound feature you can have that number, and that’s just a bit too much in my honest opinion so definitely keep that in mind when you’re trying to plan a good party.

The last two features that I personally really like a lot are the NFC and Google’s assistant or Apple Siri. If you hold down the play button for three seconds, it will activate Google Assistant or Siri and that works just fine. The same counts for NFC, which is pretty nice to have if you with a group of friends and someone has a music suggestion.

To conclude, I think that Sony SRS XB 32 is a great product. It has excellent performance. It has a lot of basses the LED light show will spice up your party a little bit and effort is quite fun to bring along.

I would also love to have a type C port, so what do you think is it? What is money like at the light show or is it just too gimmicky for you.

Does the Sony  XB 12 have good sound with it being so small and portable?

let’s find out

When it comes to built quality, I liked the XB12. It is incredibly portable due to its small size and can handle some heat durability wise. If you accidentally drop, it has no worries because this thing is meant to be sturdy.

We have a metal grill and wrap it around the speaker. There is a smooth rubbery plastic material at the bottom of the speaker. Sony included a small rubber piece that helps the speaker’s stay in place; it’s always nice when companies add extra small features like this one.

I am also a fan of the overall design of the Sony SRS XB 12; it’s modern and sleek, which allows the speaker to look good almost anywhere. There is a nice carrying strap on the side. It allows you to connect the XB 12 to a backpack.

If you’re hiking or doing something active, the portability also makes a speaker great to travel with; you can fit it pretty much anywhere without it taking up too much space. This figure also comes in six different colors, including red-black, blue grey-green, and violet.

This speaker is also ip67 certified, which means it is fully waterproof and dustproof. This is exceptionally nice to have because many other portable speakers out there aren’t entirely waterproof.

If you look to the side of the speaker, you will notice the buttons. The buttons are simple to use and easy to press with a satisfying click Enos. We have the power and Bluetooth button, volume buttons, the pause-play, and answer or in a phone call button and the add button, which allows you to pair another XB 12.

It allows play at the same time, giving you something like a surround sound effect; unfortunately, you can’t connect with more than two speakers at once, which is a bummer.

Sony claims that the battery life of this speaker is 16 hours if you’re playing Music at half volume. But expect less than that because you will probably be listening to the XB 12 at about 80% or a higher amount. Most of the time, the speaker can get pretty loud for its size, but it isn’t going to be anything that stands out.

If you look on the side of the speaker, there is a rubber flap that covers the microUSB port alongside an audio jack in case you want to use a wired connection. In terms of Bluetooth, the pairing process is just as easy as any other speaker. The XB 12 has Bluetooth 4.2, which should work fine.

With the average consumer, I was able to get a pretty good distance away before the Music started to cut out.

Now let’s get to the part we have all been waiting for the sound quality. Allow me to begin by telling you this sound is fantastic. I was also surprised how well it did sound for how small the speaker is. The volume gets pretty loud, but it isn’t anything crazy.

Now, if you were to get a second X B 12 and pair them together, it will be plenty loud for the average consumer.

I was surprised that this thing had a pretty good amount of bass for its size as well; the audio is pretty clear, but it isn’t quite as crisp with the high frequencies as I would have liked it to be overall.

I was pleased with the sound that the xB 12 has to offer as I said earlier the Music is an Incred, but it will be just fine for the average consumer.

Wrapping up the review is the sony XP 12 has good sound with it being so small and portable I would say yes.

This speaker has good sound for its size, and it always helps when a speaker is as portable as this one. I don’t know if you can get much more for four thousand rupee. I believe the speaker would satisfy anyone looking for an affordable portable speaker.

Well, it’s a Sony product. What do you expect? is it worth spending the extra money on Sony?

With any typical products, the Sony  SRS XB 01 retails for around two thousand Indian currency. If you’re lucky enough, you can find it for a good deal.

Well, it’s made of plastic and feels extraordinarily portable and reliable in your hand.

You get the typical controls and ports on this Speaker. On the upper side of SRS-XB01, four buttons are present, which work smoothly. Out of four, one is to play and pause the music track; second is for power on and off; third is for volume up, and fourth is for volume down.

On the other hand, there is a mini USB port for charging purposes and 3.5 mm audio jack. Audio jack serves you when there is no Bluetooth connectivity available.

And of course, the Speaker is splash resistant, which I always appreciate.

You also get a lanyard, which makes it best for hanging on your backpack. Overall a very portable and well-built small speaker for your travel or your bag.

The Speaker performed a little bit better than most small speakers. The sound was clear and crisp, and they all sounded pretty clear.

Speaker gets loud considering its size, and unfortunately, it dances a little bit at full volume.

The battery life of the SRS-XB01 is not up to mark. I got around 5 hours at approximately 50 to 60% volume, and it took me around a very long three hours to fully charge from dead.

Now the big question is, should you go for the SRS-XB01 by Sony?

I said, yes. I love the sound quality. If you want a tiny speaker for your backpack and have the money to spend, go for the Sony SRS-XB01 else go with something else.

Sony SRS XB 10  is a small portable wireless speaker that is the size of a soda can but smaller.

When it comes to battery life sony says it has 16-hour battery life. During my use, I got around 15 hours playing Music at 50% volume and then wanted to play Music at 70% volume. I got about 13 hours, so overall, I’m satisfied with the battery. I can easily make it last a week.

The next feature I would like to talk about is the IPx5 certification. SRS xB 10 is water-resistant and not waterproof, so you can take it out while it’s raining, but you can’t drop it in the pool.

The speaker has NFC capability, and it can also connect to two wireless speakers for stereo sound.

I like the build quality of the speaker. It doesn’t feel expensive, or does it feel cheap? Not at all, It feels just right. The body of the speaker is mainly covered with rubber; the top part has a metal grill covering the speaker. The middle section is covered with soft rubber, while the bottom one has a more grippy rubber.

The speaker feels robust and durable. It doesn’t feel like it’s going to break if I drop it. I’ve dropped the speaker even though this isn’t shockproof. But the speaker survived. I was tossing it around, and it felt, but nothing major happened. The speaker didn’t crack, but there were only like two or three deep cuts on the bottom of the speaker, but still, the cuts aren’t that noticeable.

You can find the media control buttons near the bottom. There’s no dedicated forward or backtrack buttons, but there’s a multi-function on pause and play button to skip tracks or answer or decline calls.

Next to it, there’s an Add button to connect another speaker. Underneath it, there’s a mic; then there’s the volume up and down button. At the very end, there’s the power button; all of the buttons are quite responsive; it’s easy to press, and it’s tactile.

Now the last thing to talk about is, of course, the sound quality. It has a single 5 watt 46-millimeter driver with a single passive radiator that can produce the right amount of bass for its size.

Unlike other smaller speakers, this one does a pretty good job with deep bass. Sony has a feature called extra bass, and it works on this bass punchy and clear. It doesn’t distort unless you’re playing like you know bass booster song and playing it at a hundred percent then it will take just a little but other than that it can handle Music pretty well in a second I’ll do a quick sound test I like how the speaker sound it can get pretty loud enough to fill a medium-sized room and the speaker is great to listen to by yourself or with a couple of friends

So, Finally, I like the speaker has a good battery life it’s water-resistant, and it’s small and sounds good.

Sony SRS XB 41 looks and feels fantastic with complete mesh all around. The entire speaker was more rugged but retained a clean look. Now keep in mind the auto drivers are still forward-facing and provide directional front-facing audio to clarify there are no speakers on the side or its rear, so you’re not getting the full 360-degree audio experience.

Sony SRS XB 41  is IP67 certified. Maybe this is dustproof, but more importantly, to me, this can now be fully submersible in water up to one meter for up to 30 minutes.

The additional buttons located behind the water-resistant flap is a slight nuisance, mainly to check the battery level. The other buttons are not too bad. There’s WPS for a wireless party chain; you can pair over a hundred of these speakers together if you want to fill up a room or an event and if your friends, neighbour or someone that also owns a new Sony speaker.

Sony SRS XB 41 is a sizable Bluetooth speaker not only is there a wall adapter that you used to charge the speaker, but it also includes a micro USB input to charge it. Now next up, there is a 3.5-millimetre input for physical connections, and last is your traditional USB port to charge your device. It’s using the speaker as a power bank.

Now at a topic of batteries, Sony claims up to 24 hours with the LEDs off, which is best-in-class bidding out. I did my test at 50% volume with the LEDs on. The result is 18 hours which is not bad.

Sony SRS XB 41 offers Bluetooth 4.0, which is perfectly fine for most average users.

Coming to the LEDs, now you can always turn them off if you want. The customization is done through Sony’s Fiesta Bowl app access through the music app, and it was an OK experience. Simply offering different colour choices to choose from, but nothing like having the lights scroll in directions that you want. The quality lights were already enough for me.

Sony SRS XB 41 is fitting for small rooms to the mid-size apartment at 50% volume. It was comfortable and still loud enough to be enjoyable, pushing it up to 70% and higher. It will surely fill large areas.

Most people will find a speaker perfectly fine and sounding amazing for those more unique will hear. But with my testing my assessment, it’s not a big deal; it’s not a deal-breaker for most people again, this speaker will be exceptionally great.

Now, as for the sound stage like most Bluetooth speakers, it lacks in this department. I was expecting life mode to enhance it, but I think life mode was a dud. Now some may like it, and yes it does give a more special audio experience, more simulated further suffering its audio but vocals and the mid-range, in general, loses so much more detail. It doesn’t look like it’s good quality.

I liked it on its regular stock setting from the factory so do I recommend the speaker? Oh yeah

Because Sony SRS XB 41 offers waterproof technology, it can float on water, through the extra micro USB port, you can charge your phone or device and the go-anywhere. The newly updated style is a massive plus.

Sony SRS XB 31 is another model from the most popular Extra Bass series. XB 31 is proudly made for the party. The speaker comes with a lot of features that you can’t resist buying.

Inside The Box

When you unbox the speaker, you will get a speaker, USB Cable, operating instruction, instruction Manual, and warranty card. All stuff placed very neatly.

Build Quality

Talking about its build quality, it’s exceptionally durable. The size of the speaker is ideal, not bigger or smaller, just perfect. Rated with IP67, the speaker is waterproof, dustproof, rustproof, which is something cool.

Speaker has some weight as it weighs 898 grams. XB 31 has a flashing strobe that adds more attraction. Sony has three kinds of sound profiles, i.e., extra bass, standard, and live sound.

Unfortunately, there are no dedicated buttons to activate these audio profiles. The buttons are present at the top of the speaker. These buttons are of power on/off, volume up, volume down, pairing, play/pause. All buttons are tactile and clicky. A USB, mini USB, and audio jack are covered under a rubber flap.

The speaker has a small rubber fits on which the speaker rests. But I think these feet are so little that they are not capable of handling the weight of the speaker. When the speaker gets loud, it starts to roll out, especially in extra bass mode.

Sound Quality

Sony SRS Xb 31 has massive bass, and you can twitch the equalizer for a well-balanced sound.

Sony has a particular app to control the sound of the speaker with several customization options. For the excellent bass, you can set it on Extra Bass mode.

Extra bass mode fills your room with those high notes, and you are not able to listen to the lyrics properly. If you want a balanced sound with decent bass, turn the extra bass mode off and switch to standard mode. Again it’s up to you. If the beat matters for you rather than notes, go with extra bass mode.

The speaker has a unique feature. You can make different sounds like a kick drum, scratch, snare, and cowbell by merely tapping your speaker in different places. Control the volume with force, give it a good hit for a loud output or tap gently for a soft sound.

Battery Performance

Sony has claimed the battery back up of 24 hours, but in actual usage, there are a lot of restrictions to get that much backup. When you put the volume at 60%, you can get up to 16 hours of battery backup. Also, the speaker comes with a USB port that can be used for charging the smartphone.

If you waste your speaker’s battery to charge your smartphone, then probably you will not get sufficient backup. The speaker takes up to 4 hours to get fully charged. If you turn off the speaker during charging, it takes even less than 4 hours.

Others

Party chain features let you connect up to 100 speakers so that you can make a party chain to create the party atmosphere. NFC is also working fine.

Call quality of speaker excellent. The person from both ends can clearly hear each other. The noise cancellation is also up to mark.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the XB 31 is a perfect Bluetooth speaker with almost all essential features. The speaker is also small as compared to all the remaining speakers from this series. If you need a portable speaker to fill the mid size room with great bass, then go for it.

The speaker is made of a mix of textured and smoother plastic, which has a nice feel to it. There are two front-facing drivers with a passive radiator on the front and another on the rear. The front of the speaker is covered in a metal grille. It includes a colored ring that lights up and pulses to your music.

There are two strobing white LEDs flash to the beat. The light ring will cycle through a few different colors, and using the app; you can choose between a few different presets or choose a solid color.

The lights do drain more of the battery, so if you want to conserve battery life or find them distracting, you can quickly turn them off by holding the extra-base button down. The lights get pretty bright, and they look good even in a wallet room. All the controls are on the top.

From the left, there’s the extra-base button that you can hold down to toggle the lights on or off. Next to that is the call button, which will answer, and a call a single press will bring up Google Now or Siri, and if you hold it down, there are voice prompts to tell you the battery level.

Battery Performance

Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours, but Sony says that’s what the lights off. I was able to get over 20 hours of playback at 75% volume with the lights on. Another thing to point out is, once the battery gets to about 20%, then the maximum volume is reduced, so the last few hours before the battery is going to die, it’s capped at less than 50% volume.

Others

There’s a built-in mic for voice calls too, and call quality sounded great. It’s loud and clear on both ends.

Sound Quality

Now when it comes to the sound quality, the Sony SRS XB 30 sounds great with plenty of low ends. You can toggle the extra bass on and off, but I think it sounds better on all the time. It’s not going to give you a crazy amount of bass, but it fills out the low end and makes the speaker sound larger.

The kick drums hit nice and hard with more low-end presence than JBL charge three. there’s a big difference in the amount of bass here compared to the smaller Sony SRS XB 20

Final Word

The Sony SRS XB 30 is also water-resistant, but it’s not entirely watertight. So it’s okay if it’s just going to get splashed, but it’s not meant to be fully submerged in water.

So the Sony SRS XB 30 is a great speaker overall. The lights are cool with the option to customize them or disable them altogether. The ability to charge another device is excellent. Battery life is fantastic. I like the NFC for quick pairing, and EQ is an impressive feature. It’s not my favorite overall. If you don’t need a fully waterproof speaker, this is the one to get.

Build Quality

The build quality is with a Sony SRS XB 22 which is unique. The speaker is very portable because of its sturdiness and small size. When I picked the speaker up, it had some weight and was very hefty. It’s almost like you can feel the high-quality durability when you pick it up with it weighing two pounds.

At the front of the speaker, we have the same durable fabric that many small portable speakers have been using, and the rest of the speaker is covered with rubberized plastic material. This cover helps with grip so that you won’t have any worries about dropping this baby.

On top of the speaker, we have five buttons, which include the live mode. The pause-play or skip-forward or backward to the next song button, the volume buttons, and of course, the power button and pairing button moving to the back of the speaker behind the waterproof flap.

We have the last three buttons, including the battery button, which tells you the battery life and also allows you to turn off the LED lights. The WPC button stands for the wireless party chain, and this enables you to connect multiple Sony speakers. The last button, which says ad allows you to connect another Sony speaker to play in stereo.

We have a 3.5-millimeter input for physical connections and a micro USB to charge the speaker. When it comes to Bluetooth, this speaker has Bluetooth 4.2, which should work fine for the average consumer, but the most recent Bluetooth technology is Bluetooth 5.0, which works better in terms of pairing. It is just as easy as any other device to pair the speed.

Battery Backup

The battery life is pretty good, with Sony claiming up to 12 hours of playtime. I mentioned earlier we have a USB charger, and I kind of wish it would have been USB type-c but not complaining because many other small portable speakers on the market use regular USB as well.

Sound Quality

Now let’s get to the most crucial part of the review:

The sound quality to start let me tell you I was reasonably impressed with what the speaker gives us. Here the speaker can fill up small rooms and even some medium-sized open areas. In terms of audio quality, the mid-range was very clean, and the instruments are relatively clear. The higher frequencies could have used a little more detail, especially with higher volumes, but they are bad.

Now because most portable speakers are so small, they usually don’t offer any soundstage, but with this baby, we have a soundstage with audio separation through the left and right channels that live sound buttons.

I mentioned earlier that changing the speaker from extra bass to live sound for that wider soundstage it’s not a big difference, but it is still a great feature. Overall, I am happy about the sound quality, and I enjoy the speaker’s audio for its small size.

Others

Sony SRS XB 22 is IP67 certified, which means it is water and dustproof. It also floats, which is fantastic because you won’t have to worry about losing the speaker underwater.

The one feature that separates this speaker from many on the market is the LED lights. You can turn them on or off at any time, but unfortunately, we only have two lights. One is on the top, and another is on the bottom.

I was disappointed that they didn’t have lights across the entire speaker like the Sony SRS XB 31. . If you are looking for a speaker with great lights, I would recommend the Sony SRS XB 31.

Final Words

the Sony SRS XB 22 right for you well. If you are looking for a portable speaker that has good clear audio, is waterproof, and dustproof has LED lights and different extra features. Then I would recommend this speaker. But if you are looking for a speaker purely based on ruggedness and incredible durability that still has good sound but offers fewer features
